I have been using my Trangia 25 for an number of years camping out of my car for a few days at a time. I also use it for occasional overnight treks and day excursions. It was also very useful when we had a power outage.
I use methylated spirits or bio ethanol alcohol.
This popular and robust system has been around for years it is super reliable, primarily because it is simple and well made. It is light and compact a favorite with backpackers, campers, cyclists, mountain climbers and expeditions.
The alcohol burner is simple and robust, there are no moving parts so will last years. The fuel is available all over the world and is usually cheap (methylated spirits, denatured alcohol). When in use they are very quiet, produce little or no smoke, the flame is shielded produces little light pollution. On other occasions other fuels are more appropriate, the gas conversion kit works well, but gas although widely available is not available everywhere. The multi fuel version is very reliable and works on petroleum, kerosene and diesel, these are available mostly everywhere. The multi fuel is a bit of a faff to light and noisy, very fuel efficient, it would be my choice over the gas convertor kit.
I prefer to use alcohol over gas, petrol, kerosene or diesel as it is renewable fuel source and therefore better for the environment. Alcohol is greener.
For those going light, where onces matter, the Trangia mini is the way to go.
The recipes here would equally work well on a Swedish Army Trangia, US GI Canteen or UK's BCB Crusader Cooking System.
